New Supermoon in Libra (October 16, 2020)

Sandwiched between two full moons this month (the second of course being a blue moon, a very rare event), this new moon might physically darken the skies, but although it might seem outshone by them, it will bring in a sense of lightness and fresh air amidst some very heavy energies. However, it could be very potent in itself, especially with Mercury in Scorpio recently having gone retrograde, causing delays and the return of old lessons in communicating our deepest fears and desires, and revealing our shadows. However, any challenging cosmic influences within this moon’s backdrop shouldn’t dampen it’s potential to light up a new path ahead.

Libra is a cardinal air sign, ruling the 7th House (balance, relationships, partnerships, marriage and justice). Governed by Venus the planet of love, beauty, aesthetics, posessions and wealth, Libra is symbolised by the scales and is represented by the ‘Empress’ and the ‘Justice’ cards in the Tarot, along with the suit of swords.

New moons symbolise fresh starts and this one is going to feel like a time of checks and balances as the energy of this moon will turn our focus on matters of justice and equality, and help us to begin a new cycle in regards to how we relate to others. This moon will also carry a lot of Venusian energy as Venus is ruled by Libra and is now in Virgo, bringing purity and groundedness to matters of love. Whilst the last full moon in Aries symbolised the self and identity, this moon will be about how we relate to ‘the other’ so it might be the start of a new cycle in love, relationships or more platonic partnerships.
Libra is a cool, intellectual and harmonious sign that is concerned with fairness and natural order. It is associated with the heart chakra, the skin, kidneys and endocrine system. The buttocks are often erogenous zones for those with a lot of Libran energy.

Collectively, this moon will highlight the precarious balance of the planet during these times of conflicting opinions and the polarity that is apparent, particularly with the American elections looming on the horizon. It may bring a sudden moment of clarity after a long phase of the stirring up of collective trauma, and bring a glimpse of hope that it might be possible to come to an outcome that could unite us, rather than keep us stuck in discord. The heaviness of recent weeks might have made us feel like giving up, but we may now feel urged to keep the faith that all will not be lost.

The new moon in Libra card within the Moonology Oracle deck says “A new romantic cycle begins.” This card brings balance and harmony. Its energy is warm and caring. It can indicate a new romance – or the deepening of an existing one, but it can also be a platonic relationship. Regardless of the type of relationship in question, you could be presented with a fresh opportunity for strengthening your bond and trust with each other.

As great as all of these feelings are, be aware that since the Libra scales are here, it is wise to be sure that you are giving and receiving as much as the other person in question. Do not be pushed into something deeper than you are ready for or push someone else in return. This energy exchange must be equal, for if it’s not, the scales become unbalanced and then nobody benefits.

Attune to this moon by:

☆ Letting go of what is falling away, as cycles are closing to usher in new ones.

☆ Find a balance between your desires and those of the people around you.

☆ Focus on yourself for a while in order to bring more harmony to relationships.

☆ For a balanced perspective, try to see others through the eyes of love.

☆ Take care of your body mind and soul. ☆ Start the regime you have been thinking about and set the stage for a healthier and better life.

☆ For relationships to get better or more amicable, try to start afresh and take stock of the situation and act with discipline and focus.

☆ Enjoy the warmth of the loving Libra energies and feel the harmonious caring that the Universe is trying to gift to you.

Magickal aides for this moon include the colours of soft blue, pink, other pastels and greys, feathers, wind, yoga, the pendulum, scales, the flame, opal, alexandrite, agate, cats eye, roses, hydrangea, St John’s Wort, thyme, catnip, bergamot, the goddesses Astraea, Themis, Atalanta, Lakshmi, Aphrodite and Maat, the God Osiris and the Archangel Jophiel.

Wishing you a fresh opportunity to manifest new beginnings in relationships, hope, light, trust and liberty, whilst letting go of nihilism, self sabotage, discordance and negative thinking 🦋
